functional layers on fifth

An example of functional layers, living in New York's taught me how to layer properly, without suffocating and feeling like a fat marshmallow under them. Keep your layers thin - like this button down - under a thicker sweater. Throw an oversized coat on top of everything and you're ready to brave the infamous Flatiron wind chill.

new in

Some new goodies that came in during the week really hits home for me. Stickygram transformed my beloved Instagram photos - and ya'll know how obsessed I am with Instagram - into the most adorable magnets. Now I can have my friends' faces on my refrigerator and such. Amazing. This Cheap Monday skirt from the lovely ladies of ShopKoshka - check out the awesome foil packaging that it came in - and a rad Hurley Record Scratch bikini from SwimSpot have me praying on my knees for an early spring.

genius is a matter of opinion

A mindless, almost desperate layering of clothes that resulted in a sort of genius outfit, genius being a matter of opinion. I've also noticed that all of my posts recently (and upcoming posts) have been revolved around the cold weather and layering. I promise I'll get more interesting when the weather gets warmer. Stick with me, guys!

holy holo

Forever21 dress  |  Target x rag & bone sweater  |  Forever21 heels (but this.)

Remember a few days ago when it was practically spring? These holographic heels are sure to be a staple year round - especially with the holographic trend in full effect, also if you'd like to get me something for my birthday, I've decided that a holographic card case is an essential in everyone's wardrobe.

here take my sweater

I've been brainstorming ways to wear this gorgeous shirt dress from Friends & Associates after that intro that I did way back when. Sure, it's chic and minimal by itself, but only a crazy person wouldn't wear sleeves in this weather. I opted for my trusty oversized sweater to drop off the shoulder and show some of the beautiful pleating and contrast collar and to show its enormous versatility with cute striped socks and classic brown boots.

white flare

Gap sweater  |  H&M necklace  |  H&M skirt (similar)  |  ShoeMint heels  |  ShoeMint satchel

I can't get over the fullness of this skirt. The texture - hopefully you can see it - consists of a pattern of raised dots that are both whimsical and classy. A white skirt is going to do wonders when the weather gets warmer, with a little crop top, with an oversized sweater. I gotta say though, I'm channeling a little bit of that Kate Spade essence introduced in my last post, right? My next goal, get this cool Kate Spade number and add to my growing skirt collection.

nyfw | candela nyc

Just a few snaps from New York Fashion Week and the beautiful Candela NYC Fall 2013 presentation. It's safe to say that the dip back sequin dress with a heavy knit cream beanie was an obvious favorite. The collection featured a bevy of feminine sequins and masculine silhouettes with the moto jackets and chunky knits, channeling the Roaring '20s and making it modern, chic and romantic. Everyday wear basically.

practice for nyfw

Photos by Landon
gifted Friends & Associates silk shorts  |  John & Jenn cardigan  |  H&M coat  |  gifted Lulus sunglasses

I dared to bare my legs in this weather, mainly to practice for NYFW coming up, where I'll probably have to step out in stockings more often than not. Opted for a monochromatic outfit with neon details on this John & Jenn cardigan that's surprisingly warm and the flimsy silk shorts that I was telling ya'll about in this post. I can't tell you how excited I am to be seeing Stephanie and Natalie, among some other favorites and meeting some new faces! Be sure to follow me on Instagram for some live updates!
